Book Review | Entangled by Iravati Dole

In Entangled, author Iravati Dole presents a gripping blend of speculative science, philosophy, and human emotion. The novel explores a futuristic world where teleportation, artificial intelligence, and multidimensional travel are not only possible but actively shaping the future of humanity. Through its imaginative premise and thoughtful storytelling, the book raises questions about technology, ethics, and the nature of consciousness.

The story begins dramatically with the introduction of Maya, a brilliant but morally ambiguous scientist who has developed a secret laboratory capable of reading and manipulating human thoughts. Using advanced neurotechnology, she can intercept and plant ideas in people’s minds, bending their will to serve her hidden agenda. Her abilities set the stage for the central conflict of the novel when she interferes with the work of another scientist, Hari.

Hari, a renowned scientist working at the research organisation Navachara, is involved in groundbreaking teleportation experiments. His work is closely tied to the concept of travelling between dimensions, including a six-dimensional realm that scientists believe could become a future habitat for humanity. During a routine operation with the teleportation machine called Prapti, a shocking accident occurs, Hari himself is disintegrated and trapped inside the machine as waves of energy.

From this moment onward, the narrative shifts into a tense scientific mystery. Hari’s wife, Keyuri, herself a brilliant scientist and entrepreneur, must confront the unimaginable task of rescuing her husband from a machine that has reduced him to data and strings. As she works alongside colleagues to reverse the process, the story explores complex scientific ideas, from string theory and quantum teleportation to higher dimensions, in a surprisingly accessible way.

Yet, beneath the scientific framework lies a deeper philosophical parallel. Entangled thoughtfully weaves concepts of chakras, the energy centres within the human body as described in ancient text and the pancha koshas the five layers of human existence, ranging from the physical body to the blissful self into its futuristic narrative. The idea that human existence extends beyond the material body aligns seamlessly with the novel’s exploration of multidimensional reality. Drawing inspiration from the Upanishads, the novel bridges ancient spiritual wisdom with modern scientific exploration.

One of the most compelling aspects of Entangled is its balance between science, ancient wisdom and human emotion. Despite the futuristic setting, the novel remains deeply rooted in personal relationships. Keyuri’s struggle to remain strong while caring for her daughters and attempting to save her husband adds emotional weight to the technological drama unfolding around her.

The book also introduces intriguing institutional forces such as the Protection of the Human Community (PHC), an organisation responsible for regulating technological advancement. Through this, author examines the ethical responsibilities that accompany powerful scientific discoveries. The novel asks an important question: how far should humanity go in its pursuit of progress?

Iravati’s writing style is clear and descriptive, making even complicated scientific concepts feel approachable. The futuristic world she creates, filled with teleportation systems, AI-assisted laboratories, and multidimensional exploration, is vivid and imaginative. At the same time, philosophical reflections about thought, consciousness, and destiny give the story an almost spiritual undertone.

Entangled is a thought-provoking science fiction novel that combines cutting-edge scientific speculation and ancient wisdom with emotional storytelling. It will appeal to readers who enjoy intelligent futuristic narratives in the tradition of techno-thrillers and philosophical science fiction.

With its ambitious ideas and engaging narrative, Iravati Dole’s Entangled invites readers to imagine a future where the boundaries between mind, machine, and dimension are no longer fixed, and where the greatest mysteries may lie within human thought itself.
